Description

The CMXY is a compact, elegant X/Y stereo microphone.

It is used for music recordings and in conference situations (e.g. on podiums or altars), during discussion sessions, and as a stereophonic spot microphone.

The CMXY 4V is equipped with two 4V cardioids. It is a classic cardioid X/Y microphone. If the angle between capsules is set to 90°, a stereophonic recording angle of 180° will result (see www.ima.schoeps.de).

The CMXY 41V is equipped with two 41V supercardioids. It is an X/Y microphone with improved spatial reproduction, since the...

The CMXY 41V is equipped with two 41V supercardioids. It is an X/Y microphone with improved spatial reproduction, since the channel correlation in the diffuse field is lower than with a cardioid X/Y microphone. If the angle between capsules is set to 90°, a stereophonic recording angle of 130° will result (see www.ima.schoeps.de).

The CMXY is also available with integrated table stand.

The CMXY is only available in version "U" - with XLR-5M output plug; The adapter cable AK SU/2U (XLR-5F to 2 × XLR-3M) is included.

Dedicated wind basket is available from Cinela: Zephyx-CMXY

Practice

Unlike conventional microphones which have one fixed and one rotatable capsule, the angle between the capsules of the CMXY 4V (and hence the recording angle, which is the range within which the sound sources should be placed, as “seen“ by the microphone) can be adjusted without affecting the main stereo axis. The capsules always rotate equally and in opposite directions by means of an ingenious gear arrangement in the base of the microphone. This greatly simplifies setting up the microphone.

The CMXY 4V has balanced outputs at an impedance of only 90 Ohms. This allows cable lengths of up to several hundred meters to be used without loss of sound quality, while the risk of electromagnetic interference is greatly reduced.

When any microphone is placed near (but not directly onto) a flat surface, comb-filter effects will occur. These can be reduced if the surface (e.g. the table top) is covered with perforated material.
