Linear ORTF-3D Outdoor Set

The "Linear ORTF-3D" builds on the proven SCHOEPS ORTF-3D technique. The microphone array developed by Felix Krückels (Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, freelance recording engineer and consultant) and Helmut Wittek (SCHOEPS) produces realistic, spatially balanced ambience across eight channels (e.g. for Dolby Atmos), even when the microphone cannot be placed centrally in the action, for example high up in the stands of a football stadium.

Unlike the classic ORTF-3D arrangement, the "Linear ORTF-3D" has a clear preferred direction: it emphasizes the front hemisphere and attenuates sound from the rear.

Although the array captures directionally, the high channel decorrelation creates a natural, spatially coherent image that acoustically compensates for the off-center position.

Like the "ORTF-3D Outdoor Set", the "Linear ORTF-3D Outdoor Set" is a Plug&Play setup that works immediately and reliably, even in continuous outdoor operation. It consists of a 1 m stereo bar with four two-channel basket windshields installed on it. Each windshield houses a vertical XY microphone pair.
